150 Dengue Fever Cases in Taiz as Screw Worm Hits Livestock
TAIZ, 02 Oct -- A health official in the southern city of Taiz Friday said 150 cases of dengue fever have been registered in the region, stressing “teams are spaying the area of Taiz with pesticides.” News Yemen online webiste quoted a medical source in the area as saying “hospitals in the province are receiving tens of infected cases everyday,” adding “Yemen’s International Hospital, al-Rawdah Hospital and al-Safwah Hospital continue to receive tens of cases.” People in the region have voiced disgruntlement at what they called “official apathy,” complaining “relevant authorities have not moved until now to stop the spread of the disease and we have not heard of any spraying teams.” Meanwhile, people in the villages of Sharab al-Rawnah in Taiz renewed their appeal to local councils to send medical teams to their areas to monitor the outbreak of the Screw Worm which has killed hundreds of livestock. Some hundreds of sheep, goats, cows and even dogs have died in the past two weeks in the villages of Mahmadan, al-Malamah, al-Hajifah, al-Hija, Wadi al-Raqbah, al-Ahil, al-Mouriq, and al-Aradah. A local herdsman told News Yemen “the outbreak started in the dogs then moved to the sheep and cows,” adding “we have lost tens of livestock.”
Parliament Summons NSA Deputy Head for Questioning
SANAA, 17 Oct -- The Parliament Saturday voted to summon the Deputy Head of the National Security Agency (NSA), Amar Muhammad Abdullah Saleh to question him over violations committed by NSA officers against a number of parliamentarians. MP Abdul-Salem Zabiah was stopped last week at Sanaa Airport and NSA officer refused to let him leave the country.
