Gulf Cooperation Council Secretary General Abdul-Rahman al-Attiyah
SANAA, 13 Jul -- Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Abdul-Rahman al-Attiyah Tuesday said “the Gulf states took the initiative to rehabilitate the Yemeni economy and will continue to help Yemen and its people without expecting anything in return,” but he said “Sanaa must start taking steps to make Yemen capable of absorbing large development projects,” adding “the GCC countries had pledged and mobilized support in the London conference for financing development projects in Yemen and chipped in $3.7 billion dollars.” Al-Atyah who was speaking to the Saudi-owned al-Hayat newspaper said in a reply to a question about internal crises in Yemen “the scene of internal conflicts in Yemen does not please the brothers of Yemen nor its friends because it threatens stability,” stressing “there is no way out except through dialogue to resolve differences,” adding “this position has been made clear to our brothers in Yemen in several occasions,” adding “experience has shown that clashes do not solve problems.”
