SANAA, 02 Nov – Member of the Supreme Committee at Yemen’s Islamist Congregation for Reform (Islah) and President of al-Ayman University, Sheik Abdul-Majid al-Zindani Sunday said “there is a foreign plot to occupy oil fields in the Arab world including Yemen,” adding “some foreign countries deliberately spread chaos and divisions among countries to ease their mission.”  Al-Zindani who was speaking to the Lebanese al-Matousd TV channel said “the United States is spreading chaos and violent turbulence in Yemen and in Arab states in order to create certain conditions that would force people to cave in to its dictations,”

ABYAN, 31 Oct -- At least one soldier was killed and two others were wounded on Saturday in the southern town of Ja’ar in Abyan when clashes erupted between security forces and a Jihadist group led by al-Qaeda wanted suspect, Sami Diyan.  Local sources told the independent online news website, Marib Press the clashes broke out when security arrested member of the Jihadist group, Fakri Amorah amid reports deputy governor of Abyan, Adel Hamoud al-Sabri was kidnapped by the group and taken to the area of Rymas on the border with the southern region of Yaffa. 

Military Says Significant Progress Made in Battle with Rebels

SADAA, 31 Oct -- The military Saturday announced significant progress in the battle against Zaydi Shiite rebels in north Yemen.  A military source told the defense ministry online website, 26-September “the army, backed by security forces and noble citizens, inflicted hard blows to the terrorists in al-Malahid region in Sadaa and made significant advancement into the mountain of Ghafara, al-Jar’ab and the village of al-Masfouh,” adding “military and security units launched a full-scale offensive against several strongholds and hideouts of the rebels in the areas of al-Jartahia, al-Sabkana, and Dahr al-Hymar, expelled the insurgents and seized a large cache of weapons that was left behind.”  “Several elements of terrorism were killed and wounded in these operations and three vehicles used to supply the rebels with arms and food were seized in the area of Dawib Wahidan,”

Press Court Jails 2 Journalists for ‘Slandering” President Saleh

SANAA, 31 Oct -- The country’s Press and Printing Court in Sanaa Saturday sentenced two journalists to prison after they were convicted of slandering President Ali Abdullah Saleh.  Munir al-Mawri who lives in Washington D.C. was sentenced to two years in prison and banned from writing for life after he described President Saleh as “a weapons of mass destruction,” in a November article in the independent weekly, al-Masder newspaper.  The paper’s editor, Samir Jubran was sentenced to one year in jail for allowing the article to be published and banned from writing for a year.
